How is The "Norm" Different Today?

60 years ago, to get in touch with someone, you mailed a letter. 15 Years ago if your wanted to hang out with a friend... you called them up, Now a-days... you text them, or Facebook them. The normal form of interaction is changing and soon face to face conversations will be awkward and unbearable. Despite popular belief, the constant connection with friends and family through text and Facebook is harmful to the relationship. My Girlfriend and I made a pact to delete our Facebook, and only text One day per Week. This was made after my relationship was being harmed but the social network. Now every weekend when we get together, we actually have something to talk about. "How was your week?” "Anything new happen?” "How was work this week?".... Before this plan we knew when the other person was eating sleeping and taking a crap. It was sucking the excitement out of our lives and it is doing the same to everyone else as well.

Privacy isn't a huge problem on the internet for people who are somewhat intelligent; I'm going to make this post short and sweet. If you give away oodles of information about yourself no matter where it is on the internet, Mostly facebook with the fact it’s your online biography.... YOU ARE AN IDIOT. I you are that damned worried about Privacy, stay off the internet! It’s not hard. There is nothing People can do to increase privacy with online Site which holds your information and picture, no matter what they are susceptible. If you Boycott Online site that hold personal information, you will never have a problem with Privacy. You’re welcome =)

Love It or list it, class room Edition.

Love it or list it?

I think Having a Media studies and economics class in our schooling is certainly more important than Physics 112 or Foundations of Math 12? When in the hell are you ever going to chart a graph at the grocery store cash? Or find the chemical compound makeup of Bronze at a call centre. If you are going to take a career involving that style of work, take post secondary, but cramming information into the heads of kids that won't remember it 2 hours later is a waste of time and money. Media studies have taught me how to spot of fake story, how to resist and not be so susceptible to media branding, and have given me a piece of mind. Economics have taught me simple math, how to save and protect yourself while dealing with banks, (something we all must do) and has made me a more Involved Member of the economic society. You certainly don’t get those life skills out of a Math class. I think the Canadian Education system should sit down, give their head a shake and play a big game of love it or list with classes within our schools... Things like Economics are useful. Things like Chemistry 111 and both 12's are a waste, of your money and my time.

A Trip to The Moon Response

                                                     A TRIP TO THE MOON

            

             This was all new to me, it was such an old video, and apparently the first actual movie ever made, which was cool to think about. It was truly a gem, a monument to the evolution of today’s media and the film industry. It almost seemed as if this was more interesting than any Scatter plot Michael Bay film. I have seen bits and clips from times in my childhood, but this was the first time I view the entire 1902 movie. Laughably the "astronauts" are all dressed in street clothes on the moon, waving and then simultaneously drawing blankets over themselves as human faced stars of the Big Dipper look at them. I also recall after some research the creator of the movie, Georges Méliès' was a professional magician which is where the alien creatures disappearing into poufs of smoke is from, bringing out his old roots. It was a fun experience and I hope to view many more films like this and gain some knowledge of early years of film revolution.

The Bronswick affair, a 1960's Mock-Documentary Showing one simple Idea... People are easily manipulated. A Television set, The Bronswick Brand was implemented with a small device called a Manipulode, it disrupted a though processing system in your mind and made you think (and buy) way more than you needed. The "Mocumentary" was easily picked apart and torn down to be fake, but it was still strong in one, the Message. Ironically, the fake story being potrayed was about the manipulation of the public, yet the main idea of the Mocumentary was to show people that they just believed a story formulated by an 8 year old with Down syndrome, but you know! As long as it's on TV it’s true! Good job to the creators of the Mocumentray, it really pushed its point well.

What modern Media Classification are you in?

I was given a sheet in My Media studies class, with a series of questions relating to portrayal of women and stereotyping in media. After watching a TV series, It showed me Passed and modern media is the most sexist, prejudges, monstrous thing I’ve ever seen. It was Terrible how badly women are placed and formed to be "in the kitchen, house wife" material. There was plenty of server product placements, but That isn't an issue for me. The questions really showed me the small things that are normally overlooked by everyday society, and shined a light on the classification and placement of people and ideas in media.
