Media Studies; Start to Dead Tone.

Media Studies; Start to Dead Tone
It has Been a Long Trek until the final cut of dead tone, and the ending of our media studies Journey. It has been quite an Experience,  A lot of life lessons which surprisingly will be useful later in life, some filming experience and a whole lot of fighting. I've learned a lot, and have had the Privilege of seeing many great films and having Mrs. Smith as a teacher. Even though she's a hard ass...
No matter what, our movie turned out way better than we all expected, I Hope It Goes On Youtube! (Mrs. Smith!) And I will always have some memories of this class, whenever I spot really obvious product placement, or a terrible mockumentry.  Good luck to all my classroom colleagues and I wish you luck along with future students of Mrs. Smith’s Class.

Mermaids; Myth or Reality?

Mermaids; Myth or Reality?

Last weekend i watched a mockumentry about how mermaids could exist in the depths of our oceans. It was a bit far-fetched but at times the show had some really good points that could be believable. One point that they brought up was an evolution theory that some ancestors of ours made camp near sea and soon evolved to adjust to life at sea. Seemed pretty legit since they brought up some true facts about us humans. How some villages in the south have evolved to see better in dark murky waters, another point they brought up was how people can free dive and hold their breath for about twenty minutes at a time. But after the theory part, everything else seemed kind of far-fetched, including the "real" footage that some kids had of a "real" mermaid. You could obviously tell that the "mermaid" was computer animated and that the boys were really bad actors when they spoke to the camera. Mean less to say it was a good show to pass time, but i think that National Geographic should probably put actual documentaries about REAL things.

How Is the "Norm" different today?

How is The "Norm" Different Today?

60 years ago, to get in touch with someone, you mailed a letter. 15 Years ago if your wanted to hang out with a friend... you called them up, Now a-days... you text them, or Facebook them. The normal form of interaction is changing and soon face to face conversations will be awkward and unbearable. Despite popular belief, the constant connection with friends and family through text and Facebook is harmful to the relationship. My Girlfriend and I made a pact to delete our Facebook, and only text One day per Week. This was made after my relationship was being harmed but the social network. Now every weekend when we get together, we actually have something to talk about. "How was your week?” "Anything new happen?” "How was work this week?".... Before this plan we knew when the other person was eating sleeping and taking a crap. It was sucking the excitement out of our lives and it is doing the same to everyone else as well.

Love It or list it, class room Edition.

Love it or list it?

I think Having a Media studies and economics class in our schooling is certainly more important than Physics 112 or Foundations of Math 12? When in the hell are you ever going to chart a graph at the grocery store cash? Or find the chemical compound makeup of Bronze at a call centre. If you are going to take a career involving that style of work, take post secondary, but cramming information into the heads of kids that won't remember it 2 hours later is a waste of time and money. Media studies have taught me how to spot of fake story, how to resist and not be so susceptible to media branding, and have given me a piece of mind. Economics have taught me simple math, how to save and protect yourself while dealing with banks, (something we all must do) and has made me a more Involved Member of the economic society. You certainly don’t get those life skills out of a Math class. I think the Canadian Education system should sit down, give their head a shake and play a big game of love it or list with classes within our schools... Things like Economics are useful. Things like Chemistry 111 and both 12's are a waste, of your money and my time.

Our Role As a Consoumer

Obey, Do not question... Read the novel 1984 and Relate the "party" to modern media and Trends.
Our role is not question, simply intake and believe.

A Trip to The Moon Response

                                                     A TRIP TO THE MOON

This was all new to me, it was such an old video, and apparently the first actual movie ever made, which was cool to think about. It was truly a gem, a monument to the evolution of today’s media and the film industry. It almost seemed as if this was more interesting than any Scatter plot Michael Bay film. I have seen bits and clips from times in my childhood, but this was the first time I view the entire 1902 movie. Laughably the "astronauts" are all dressed in street clothes on the moon, waving and then simultaneously drawing blankets over themselves as human faced stars of the Big Dipper look at them. I also recall after some research the creator of the movie, Georges Méliès' was a professional magician which is where the alien creatures disappearing into poufs of smoke is from, bringing out his old roots. It was a fun experience and I hope to view many more films like this and gain some knowledge of early years of film revolution.
